Planning for the Future: Boundary Considerations for SCCSD
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As a partner in your child’s education, we remain committed to keeping you informed about the current school boundary discussions that may affect current and future students. Last school year, boundary discussions began with initial changes agreed upon for some of our elementary schools beginning in the 2022/2023 school year. Now, our work continues as we consider changes to boundary areas for middle and high schools.
First, I want to reassure you that any changes that have occurred to date will not affect current students. Second, I want to give you a brief overview of the changes that will be discussed to inform you of potential boundary adjustments in the future.
On Monday, November 30, a live virtual meeting will be held to allow families and community members to learn more about boundary options under consideration. This meeting will be the kickoff for engaging parents/guardians and community members in providing feedback on boundary options.

The District has engaged the services of RSP & Associates to guide the boundary process and provide an enrollment analysis, which includes population trends, demographics, enrollment data, and potential growth and development. Their study is grounded in the priorities set forth by the Board of Education and the input we are seeking from the community. RSP will lead the presentation during the November 30 virtual meeting to highlight work up to this point and explain the three options proposed for community consideration. View current boundary maps and new boundary map options online.
The new boundary options allow us to balance school sizes and even out enrollment in our secondary schools. While we encourage students to attend the school in their neighborhood boundary area, the District also currently accepts transfer requests. To learn more about the transfer policy, visit our website: Board Policy 501.8 – Within-District Transfers.
Following the meeting on November 30, families and community members are encouraged to provide feedback using our online portal, ThoughtExchange. Access the ThoughtExchange portal. Through this portal, you may provide feedback, see the feedback from fellow responders, and even weigh in on portal discussions with comments or ratings. You may also view a recording of the community meeting on our website. Feedback may be submitted through ThoughtExchange until December 13.
Moving forward, if the Board of Education decides to alter any boundary areas, we will share additional communication with families in the Sioux City Community School District. Any potential alterations would go into effect no sooner than July 1, 2021, so current student assignments will NOT be affected by any changes.
